About James Alexander Witherspoon, III
James Alexander Witherspoon, III, son of James Alexander Witherspoon, Jr. and Helen Welch, was born in Scotland in 1691. He graduated from Edinburgh University in 1709. He was ordained minister of Yester in 1720, in 1744 was appointed Chaplain in Ordinary to King George II. He ministered at Gifford Parish of Yester, Haddingtonshire from March 1720 to his death in 1759.
James married his first cousin once removed, Anne Walker, daughter of Reverend David Walker and Margaret Patterson. They had six children. James died 12 August 1759.
