About Jan "John" Wrobleski
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=79580392
- John Wrobleski was born in Germany as John Robles, fled Germany as a
young man, and changed his name to Wrobleski--met Mary in Prussia.
# Note: John Robles--[W]Robles[ki]
- Note:
When John and Mary came to the U.S. in 1870, family stories say that
when they sailed from Prussia, it took 60 days because the wind often
pushed them backward. During a storm, a large barrel of food tipped over
and crushed their baby, and they threw her in the ocean. Daughter Annie
was about 2 years old and made it safely.
# Note:
John and Mary were Catholic and were founding members of St. Joseph's
Parish and Church in New Posen (later Edison) in Swift County, MN.
# Note:
I had heard this story before (most likely from Gramma Witt)--but the
dates are inconsistent. Looking at the children's birthdates, they
probably came over between 1866-1871, but Annie, and Mary, would have
been alot older!! [js]
