They went outside in order to fight it out with their fists. After that J. C. Mostert drew a knife, and his opponent ran away. Deponent van Petten wished, with kind words, to get the knife out of his hands, but he would not listen, but cut deponent over his right arm and through his upper garment, after that he took a stone and threw it at Barentsz:, wounding him in the head.

(please note that although the information in the upper section on the above link about Jan's wife seems to be inaccurate, the additional data section by Mike Ducray below is very informative)

By Mike Ducray

"Jan Mostert appears to have died between 14 December 1717 and 13 October 1720. My assertion is based on a joint will of Jan Mostert and Lijsbeth Nieumeijers dated 14 December 1717

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9BY-J9X9-J

in which Jan is described as sick in bed.

This is then followed by a will of Lijsbeth Nieuwmeijers dated 13 October 1720

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9BY-J9X4-Y

in which Lijsbeth is described as being sick in bed and the widow of the late Jan Mostert.

Lijsbeth dies between the date of the second will and 26 October 1720 when an inventory of a portion of her estate is conducted
