Jan van Niekerk (1948 - 2008)

Brief overview:

Jan (60), caretaker of the trout dams at Waterval Boven, died Sunday night after being shot in front of the town's fishing club the day before. He was shot twice in the head. He worked for the WTBA (Waterfall Above Trout Association) for 15 months.

His daughter, Ms. Sonja van Niekerk, went to look for him on Saturday night when he was not at home at 18:30. Sonja found her severely wounded father lying in a pool of blood in the door of the clubhouse. People living near the clubhouse heard her screams and went to help her.

Van Niekerk was first admitted to the hospital at Waterval Boven, but later transferred to the Pretoria Academic Hospital. He died Sunday night.
