Biography
Jane Powell is the daughter of Joseph Powell and Hannah (Jewson/Juson) Powell. Her parents were Quakers and her father fought in the Revolutionary War.
On October 16, 1824, in Claiborne County, Tennessee, Jane married John W. Beeler, son of Peter Beeler and Barbara (Petre) Beeler. They were the parents of 17 children, born in Tennessee, Missouri, and Oregon. They moved to Missouri in 1832. In 1852, Jane and John and 14 of their 17 children, went to Oregon with her brother Joab Powell, and his wife, Anna (Beeler) Powell, who was John's sister. They all settled close to where Providence Church was built. John furnished the land on which the Providence Cemetery is located and Jane's brother Joab organized this church in 1853.
