About Jane Holmwood

Jane Bland was the daughter of Gregory Bland and unkown wife. She was born c.1610 in London, England, and died c.1664. She married her cousin Edward Bland, son of John Bland the Grocer and wife Susannah Deblere. Edward emigrated to Virginia in 1647.

Encyclopedia of Virginia biography, under the editorial supervision of Lyon .. edited by Lyon Gardiner Tyler; page 188; Bland, Edward, son of John Bland, an eminent merchant of London, emigrated to Virginia where he was agent for his brother John Bland, who had large estates in Virginia. In 1649 he took part in an exploring expedition to the westward. He married Jane, daughter of his uncle Gregory Bland, and died about 1653. His widow married (secondly) John Holmwood, of Charles City county. Edward Bland left issue a son Edward of "Kymages," in Charles City county, Virginia.

Collections for a history of the ancient family of Bland, pg 299 "Edward Bland Sr married Jand, his Cousin, daughter of GREGORY BLAND, of the Kingdom of Ireland,---by whom he had a son, EDWARD. He died about the year 1653, and was buried at Kymages. JANE, his Widow, soon after married John Holmwood, of Charles-City County, but had no issue by him that survived her. She died about the year 1664, and lies interred at Westover.

~EDWARD BLAND, their only son, became possessed of the estate at Kymages,-but being embroiled with a long suit of law, died seized only of the Manor House of Kymages, and of 2000 acres of the land, about the year 1690, and was buried at Westover. He married JANE, daughter of . GILRY, a Planter, in Virginia,-by whom he had a son, and daughter, --viz., J oHN, who succeeded to the estate of 2000 acres at Kgymages,--but, being unmarried, he resided with his Cousin, RICHARD BLAND, at Williamsburgh,--and SARAH, who married RICHARD NEW, of Henrico-County. JANE, his widow, resided at Kymages, --but afterwards married THOMAs TANNER, a Planter. "
