About Jane ‘Jeanne’ Ingersoll
Origins
Early work, such as TAG 36:62-64, followed by Torrey's New England Marriages, identified Jane (or Jeanne) as a Skidmore, daughter of Thomas Skidmore. Warren Skidmore, in his Skidmore genealogy, corrects earlier published errors, showing that she was, in fact, Jane Ireland. His proof was the inventory of the estate of Daniel Whitehead dated 13 November 1668 "which mentions a cow confirmed to his son Adam Whitehead (an undeniable son of Jane) "It having been given to him by his grandfather Ireland." This effectively eliminates Jane as a child of Thomas Skidmore. On 10 November 1668, she was mentioned as wife Jane in the will of Daniel Whitehead of Newtown, to receive the farm on which she lived, all the household goods, and to serve as Executrix under the advice of Thomas Wandell and Burger Joris. (She renounced administration.)
