About Lady Joan Edgecombe
Her name was Johanna, but she also seems to have been called Joan and Jane. Her surname was spelled Durnford, Durneford, and Dernford.
She was the second daughter and heiress of Stephen [sic: JAMES] Durnford, who brought into the Edgcumbe family the large estate of East and West Stonehouse (map), and who died in December 1553. She and her husband Sir Pierse Edgcomb had three sons, Richard [see Edgcumbe, Sir Richard, 1499-1562], John and James, and three daughters, Elizabeth, Jane (aka Joan), and Agnes.
