Janet Napier, here treated, married James Edmonstone of that Ilk and Ednam on 10 February 1457. NRS: GD16/44/1 On 1 February 1457 she and her husband had a charter for the thaneage and barony of Boyne in the sheriffdon of Banff, and the lands of Tulliallan in the sheriffdom of Perth. NRS: GD15/341 Her first husband died before 19 September 1464. NRS: GD16/44/1 On 3 June 1484 she resigned these lands in favour of her daughters, Elizabeth Edmonstone, and Margaret Edmonstone. NRS: GD15/343

Following the death of her first husband, Janet Napier, here treated, married Alexander Hepburn of Whitsome. RMS 1424-1513: charter number 1763

10 October 1457: Decree of Transumpt issued from commissary of St. Andrews in Lothian i.e. John of Ottyrburne, licentiate in decreets, rector of parish church of Libertoun, in diocese of Glasgow at instance of Sir James Edmonstoune of that Ilk, knight, of (1) Charter under Great Seal, dated 17 Mar., 1368/9, to John of Edmaundestoune, knight, of thanedom of Boyne in sheriffdom of Banff, to be held as free barony, with annualrent of £4 Scots furth of town of Banff, and (2) Charter under Great Seal, dated 1 Feb., 1456/7, following on resignation by James of Edmondestoune of that Ilk, knight, into hands of the Crown for new infeftment to said James and Janet Naper, daughter of Alexander Naper of Merchamston, in conjunct fee, of thanedom of Bune, in sheriffdom of Banff, and lands of Tulliallaine, in sheriffdom of Perth. Witnesses to transumpt:- Mr. Gilbert Herynge, vicar of Innerwyk, William Blaire, vicar of Bonkle, William Wyntoune, M.A., and John of Edmondestoune. Fragment of seal appended. 19 September 1464: Notarial instrument narrating that sir Alexander Hundby, formerly curate at the parish church of St. Giles in Edinburgh, declared and certified that in January 1457 he had proclaimed the banns for the marriage of the deceased Sir James Edmondstone of that ilk, kt., and Janet Napare, daughter of Alexander Napare of Mercharstoune, now a knight, and on the Feast of St. Scholastica the Virgin [February 10] in the said year had performed the said marriage.
