About Janet Sutherland Mackay

This [the] Janet Mackay (born 1769 and died 15.3.1857) was the eldest daughter of[ Lt. Col. George Mackay and Louisa Campbell Mackay of Bighouse. She was married to Sir Benjamen Duff Dunbar of Ackergill and Hempbrigs.

The second wife of George, 3rd Lord Reay was Janet Sinclair*(relict of an earlier Dunbar) daughter of Sinclair of Brims/Ulbster. (* these two being great-great-grandparents of the Janet Mackay above)

    Janet Mackay was born circa 1768.2 She was the daughter of George Mackay of Bighouse and Louisa Campbell.1,3 

She married Sir Benjamin Dunbar of Hempriggs, 3rd Bt., son of Sir William Dunbar of Hempriggs, 2nd Bt. and Henrietta Rose, on 10 December 1784.1

She died on 15 March 1857 at Hempriggs Castle, Caithness, Scotland.2

From 10 December 1784, her married name became Dunbar.1
