Janetta (60), a retired SA Revenue Services auditor, was raped, stabbed and throttled, in her Margate home on 6th August 2013. Janetta had been watching TV with her sister Koekie Stander (69), when she heard her dogs barking and went to investigate. Her sister had warned her not to go out. When Koekie looked outside she saw a man raping her sister. She tried to pull the wounded Janetta away from the man, but he dragged her away, and stabbed her in the chest and strangled her. Koekie described the killer as small-built and young, and smelt of alcohol. She ran back and locked herself in the house. The killer fled once he realised that help was coming. Nephew, Walter Green, arrived five minutes later to find Janetta lying dead on the ground in a pool of blood, with her panties ripped off. Only a cell-phone was stolen. Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Margate detectives were investigating a rape and murder docket. "The victim was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object and died as a result,” he said. Mfeka warned locals not to go outside if they heard strange noises. “Please contact the police or press your panic button. Do not go outside.”
