Jannie Jacobus Weideman (1963 – 2023)
Brief overview:
Jannie (60), a farmer from Ermelo, was found murdered in the living room of his home by a neighbour at 22h00 on 21st December 2023.
Jannie's wife was not home at the time. She had apparently gone to Middelburg, and when Jannie didn't return her calls or messages, she became concerned and phoned the neighbours.
The neighbours apparently drove to the farm, but could not gain access to the property. A while later they noticed an unknown man at the back door of the house, after which they requested a security officer from ACSU security to investigate further.
According to Capt. Carla Prinsloo, police spokesperson, there were several signs of a struggle in the house.

- Members of Ermelo Investigation Team and the Secunda Murder and Robbery unit arrested the five suspects with the assistance of members from the Mpumalanga Tactical Response Team. Three suspects aged between 23 and 34 years were arrested 18 days after the incident, on January 10. Two additional suspects aged 35 and 37 were arrested the next day.

- The suspects have appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate's Court, and police cannot rule out whether they will be additionally charged for the farm attack. The two men remain in custody, and the matter has been postponed to January 15th 2024 for further investigation.
- 10/01/2024: While firearms officers seized, Vusumuzi Mandlazi, 39, and Robert Shabalala, 49, were also arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Mandlazi and Shabalala have already appeared in court. Police cannot exclude the possibility that those two suspects are involved in Weideman's murder. Mdhluli says while police are investigating Mandlazi and Shabalala's movements during the farm attack, they remain in custody. They will reappear in court on February 15th.
