About Jannie du Plessis
Jannie du Plessis (1950 – 2013)
Brief overview:
Jannie (63) was shot in the stomach when attackers invaded his farm Gretna Green, near Villers in the Free State on 13th January 2013. The perpetrators then locked him and his wife, Stinnie (59), in a safe for eight hours before they were rescued. Jannie's brother said that one of his kidneys had to be removed, but due to the extensive internal bleeding, and damage to his intestines, an operation and dialysis treatment had not been possible. Due to organ failure, Jannie died in hospital a month later.
Two males, aged 29 and 33, were arrested in Brixton and Alberton after a month-long search by the Hawks. They were to appear in the Villiers Magistrate's Court on Friday, on charges of murder, armed robbery, rape and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Police spokesman Mmako Mopiring said the police are looking for a third suspect.
