In december 1729, Jean took an oath of allegiance at Annapolis Royal, NS, to George II, King of Great Britain. In a letter addressed to Paul Mascarene (rem: un français huguenot, réfugié par la Suisse au service de l'Angleterre), lieutenant of Nova Scotia, dated at Annapolis Royal, 21 June 1745, Jean made a mark as one of the seven delegates representing the people of Annapolis Royal.
