near Gabrias in the Lozere area of Languedoc-Rousillon region of France:
In the 14th century the Cheminades turned the Borie de Cogossac into a château.
François Calvet de Fontnilles, a Cévennes nobleman and converted Protestant, made the château into a Huguenot stronghold. At the end of the 16th century, when the area was 'reconquered' by the Catholic army, the Lady of Cougoussac and much of her family were massacred.
In 1587, Marie Calvet de Fontanilles, a descendent of the survivors, married Urbain de Retz de Bressoles, who restored the château to its current condition.
