BIOGRAPHY Jean was the son of Robert II de La Marck, sire de Sedan, and Catherine de Croÿ. By his wife Hélène de Bissipat, vicomtesse de Falaise, daughter of Guillaume de Bissipat, vicomte de Falaise, and Louise de Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, dame d'Evequemont, he had a daughter Philippa who would have progeny.

In 1536 Jean succeeded his father as provost of Jametz, and to the estates related to his château of Jametz. He ruled his seigniory until his death, a rule characterised by peace and prosperity. He lived at Jametz without interruption, devoting all his energies to the ensuring its prosperity. By 1557 a small town had grown around the château, with 158 families not counting the nobility, clergy, magistracy and officials involved in the running of the seigniory. Through the influence of his brother Robert III, duc de Bouillon, Jean gained for Jametz the rights to stamp its own coins. Jean died on 30 June 1560. His wife Hélène had died in 1550.
