Jane (Jeanne) Le Clerc was born about 1559 in Valenchinne, Les Deux, Normandy, France the daughter of Arnoul LeClerc & Jenna Lippensen, wealthy merchants in the town of Valenchinne. They were Huguenots (Protestants) caught in the Religious Wars of the times and ended up in Belgium & Switzerland.
