Daughter of Burroughs Westlake and Jemima Pettit.

Charles Bailey married Jemima Westlake and settled in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. They were married before 1830 and had their first three children in Beaver County, PA. Around 1835-1836 they moved to Mercer County, PA where next three children were born. Then returned to Beaver County where their last two children were born. In about 1844 the entire family moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. While there they acquired three pieces of property. Just a year later (1845), Charles passed away at only fifty two years old. He is buried in Nauvoo. Keeping the promise to Charles, Jemima began preparations to undertake the Mormon Trail to Utah. Making quilts, gathering material to make jackets, hats, mittens and suitable underclothing that may be needed for the long journey. Making sure she and her children had sturdy shoes. She and seven children made trek to Utah in 1850 with a courageous group of pioneers seeking religious freedom at all costs. walking over 1,300 miles in all types of terrain, weather and food rationing.

After reaching the Salt Lake Valley, Jemima Westlake Bailey moved to Goshen, Utah and spend the rest her life there. Loving and caring for her family until her 88th year.
