Biography

Jemima Smith, the daughter of John Smith and his second wife Mary Bill [1] was born on May 26, 1665 at Reading, Massachusetts. [2] [3][4]

She married first, Paul Maverick by 1680. He was born at Boston on June 10, 1657, son of Elias and Anna (Harris) Maverick. [5]

Her husband Paul was apparently living in June, 1709, when Jemima applied for an innholder's license at Boston, in the name of her husband Paul Maverick, who was away at sea.

The will of Elias Maverick dated Oct. 19, 1681 in naming his son Paul states that Paul married the daughter Jemima of John Smith.

Jemima married second Henry Richmond [6] who died at Boston on September 31, 1714. [7]

On May 23, 1716, widow Jemima Richmond, Andrew Lane, Samuel Matlock and John Maverick posted bond in the amount of L400 and Jemima was granted administration of the estate of her late husband Henry Richmond of Boston, deceased. [8]

She married third, Andrew Lane at Boston at Boston on March 14, 1716. [9]

On March 2, 1718, Andrew Lane, husband of the eldest daughter of Captain John Smith, deceased, petitioned the court indicating entitlement to an equal share and asking that John Brintnall, estate administrator, be brought to court to 'render a true and just account of his administration'. [10]

Jemima Lane, wife of Andrew died at Boston on February 24, 1746, aged 83. [11]

Her husband Andrew Lane, of Boston wrote his will in April, 1747 and it was presented at court on April 18m 1749. Among his bequests he left L50 to Phebe Brintnall, sister to my late wife. [12]
