About Jeremiah Stover, Sr.

It is unclear whether Jeremiah's father was Abraham Stover or Jacob Stover, Jr.. Both were sons of Jacob Stover and Sarah Boone. However, most sites show him as son of Abraham.

Jeremiah Stover was convicted of treason for being a Tory (British sympathizer) in Botetourt County, Virginia in August, 1780.

Later lived on Hunting Creek in Wilkes Co, NC. There he filed his will dated 26 Nov 1807, proved Feb Term 1808 (Wilkes Co Will Book 2 page 226 )

1805 Feb - Wilkes Co.,NC - State vs. Job Cole Riot: Jno.[John] Stanley a witness paid 7 Shillings along with William Lewis, ELIZABETH STANLEY, NATHAN STANLEY, HARRIS STANLEY and Jeremiah Stover.

1806 May - Wilkes Co.,NC - State vs Job Cole Assault and Battery fined 6 pence. Archibald Lovelace, David Bell, William Lewis, Jeremiah Stover and ELIZABETH, JOHN, NATHAN and HARRIS STANLEY were all witnesses in this case.

Will in Wilkes County NC Will Book 2 dated 26 Nov 1807, proved Feb term 1808. Will of Jeremiah Stover Senr. [From abstract}: Names sons Jeremiah and John, if equal division of land is not specified in deed given, land to be equally divided as well as all estate; land on Hunting Creek to be divided equally. Execr: Joshua Souther, Presley Bussel Senr. Wit: Henry Souther, William Lunsford, Anne (or Ame) Lunsford. Signed Jeremiah X Stover.

Jeremiah was person charged with the tax, no males 16-21, no slaves, 2 horses, 4 cows. Some of his neighbors were: Ages, Maxe, McVey, Meadows (2), Miller (3), Moody, Mountain, Radford, Richardson, Simes, Sloan, Smitch (5), Smith, Spangle, Stanton.
