Notes for JESSE BOONE:

There is a bit of tradition that has been, at times, confusing to writers of Boone history, the statement that Jesse Boone was either the grandfather, or father of Judge Ratliff Boone, who was governor of Indiana in 1822. It seems that Ratliff's parents were a Jesse Boone and his wife Kessiah, who emigrated from Georgia to Kentucky when Ratliff was a boy. There is no proof and records to indicate such but one is to believe he is from the Squire Boone line." Descendants of Israel Boone" by Alice H. Boone.....Jesse Boone was a son of Israel Boone, he was mostly raised by Daniel Boone and his wife Daniel had only married two months when Israel died, Mrs. Sarah Henderson (Jesse granddaughter) he lived in Daniel Boone family. He was about five feet and eight to ten inches tall. He first entered land in Burke County, N.C. in 1777 and by 1801 he had entered four tracts. Jesse Boone raised his family of eight children in Burke Co. but after 1810 he moved to the Watauga territory, settling near Coffey's Gap

He was an active member in the church, having been chosen clerk and deacon at different times in the old Yadkin Baptist Church in Burke County. He joined the Church in Watauga, the minutes of this church contain many entry's concerning the Boone's. After several Controversies with the Three Forks Church , Jesse was said to have been excommunicated because of a remark he had made.

Origins

August 26,1755 A consumptive by the name of Boone came with his mother and asked to remain for treatment and we could not refuse. We lodged him in the old house. September 01, the consumptive was taken home by his brother, who came for him last evening. He, Mr. Boone, returned on the 6th accompanied by his father, who remained overnight. On the 15th his brother came for him once more and he left there being small hope of his recovery. From Moravian Records Vol 1

It has been said Israel and Martha Boone were buried at the Burying Ridge, as this Cemetery was first named, and that is why Squire and Sarah chose this place to be buried also.

Jonathan, was six years old and his brother Jesse eight, in 1756, when his father and Mother died from tuberculosis. The two sisters Elizabeth and Sarah Sally Boone were four and two years old. Jonathan and his brother Jesse then lived with their uncle and aunt Daniel and Rebecca Boone. Jonathan's grandfather Squire Boone, died when Jonathan was fifteen years old, in 1765.
