Macleay Argus (Kempsey) Tue 9 May 1950:
MR. J. PLUMMER
The death occurred early on Anzac morning April 25, at his residence 235 Parramatta Road, Haberfield, of Mr. James Plummer. Born at Summer Island, Macleay River, on January 18, 86 years ago, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Plummer.
On February 1, 1924, in Sydney, he married Miss Fanny (Ollie) Oliver, of Tasmania, by whom he is survived.
His brother Thomas, of Tauranga, New Zealand, is the only surviving member of a family of five. His sisters, Mary (Mrs. Hillard, of Clybucca) Florrie (Mr. Barnes, of Alaska), and brother William of Barraganyatti being deceased.
Mr. Plummer was an ardent member of the Church of England. Loved and respected by all who knew him, his word was his bond and his demise was accepted with profound sorrow by all. He was a man of the hightest calibre and an example to his fellow men, and ever willing to assist in any charitable work, and anything for the advancement of the community. His cheery smile and happy greeting will be sadly missed by all.
Mr. Plummer has large property and dairying interests at Clybucca. He was an active supporter and shareholder of the defunct, Macleay River Co-operative Shipping Company, partner in the clybucca sawmill which was a boom in its day, partner in Spencer Creek quarry and drogering of blue metal for roads on most of the Lower Macleay. He was also contractor of the first telephone line to Macksville via the Pacific Highway, and many other undertakings.
Mr. Plummer was a keen sportsman, having had some outstanding race horses, was a keen follower of sailing, sculling and cricket. He was a highly esteemed and respected member of the Ashfield Bowling Club, as was manifest by the large number of members who attended the service and at the graveside.
After a service at Leslie Andrew's funeral chapel at Ashfield, the cortege moved off to Rookwood portion of Church of England cemetery, Rev. Shaw, of Ashfield officiating at both services. Eloquent testimony of his popularity was manifest by the large number of floral tributes and attendance at the chapel service and later at the graveside. Much sympathy goes out to his sorrowing wife in the loss of such a loving husband an home lover.
The health of Mr. Thomas Plummer, of Tauranga, New Zealand, is at present causing his relatives and friends great anxiety.
