About Jessica Slatis
Mrs. Jessica Slatis of Chicago, national president of the Women s Auxiliary of Jewish War Veterans, will speak at Agudath Jacob community house Friday at 9 p. m. under auspices of the auxiliary of the Jem Englander Post of PWV. A lawyer and a singer, she was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1916. She studied voice in Europe for four years, then sang in grand opera and concert. She Is a member of the Jewish Big Sisters, the American Jewish Congress, the Serve-a-Camp Committee, and the Order of the Eastern Star^and has held office m these organization She is a charter member of the Set. Sam Dreben Auxiliary ot JWV and has been its president. She has also been president of the Illinois JWV auxiliary. She has been an officer of the National Judiciary Committee, was on the resolutions committee of The Women's Patriotic Congress on National Defense. Her husband, Abraham Slatis was a World War I veteran and was with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington during World War II. Her son Herman Slatis, is a veteran of World War II and a professor at McGill University.

She served as Assistant attorney for the Sanitary District of Chicago (1928-1929), Special investigator for the Department of Labor for Illinois (1930-1931), Owner of Slatis Mercantile Co. (1932-1943) and as an Attorney in Chicago.

Jessica Slatis also worked as an Opera Singer. On Sunday, February 27th, 1927, she sang alongside Beniamino Gigli at the Century Theater in New York City. She also spend a few years in Europe studying to sing and apparently sang at the La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy.
