Jessye Mae Norma born September 15, 1945 in Augusta, Georgia, USA.

American opera singer.

Youngest recipient of a Kennedy Center Honor. Five time Grammy Award winner, including her Lifetime Achievement Award. Commandeur de l'ordre des Arts et Lettres. Legion d'honneur. Honorary Ambassador to the United Nations. Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, 1st class. Member of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Medal. National Medal of Arts. Honorary doctorates from more than 30 colleges, universities, and conservatories including Cambridge, Yale and Manhattan School of Music.

Serves on the Boards of Directors for numerous foundations including Carnegie Hall, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Dance Theater of Harlem, and the New York Public Library.
