2 Cycles Collide, Both Riders Die

Albany, Ore. - Two albany men were killed Friday night when their motorcycles collided headon on a county rod in North Albany.

State police said the victims, James William Dye, 24, of 4605 San Felicia Ave., and Michael Francis Serrao, 20, 564 N. Nebergall Loop road, were dead at the scene of the 8:25 p.m. accident.

Police said neither motorcycle was equipped with any kind of lights and both were apparently traveling at a high rate of speed when they collided on N. Nebergall Loop road. Neither victim was wearing a crash helmet, they added.

Police said the men, apparently friends, had been seen together about 10 minutes before the accident.

The deaths were the 11th and 12th traffic fatalities this year in Benton County and brought the 1972 toll to 137 in the five counties of the Mid-Willamette Valley.

Both bodies were taken to Aasum mortuary.
