Two Killed in Highway 20 Crash
Albany (AP) - Two Aberdeen, Wash., residents were killed shortly before midnight Sunday after their small car collided with a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 20 five miles east of Albany.
The Linn County sheriff's department identified the victims as Tommy Donald Werner and Louise Ann Dye, both 37.
Werner was driving a 1975 Volkswagen that pulled onto the highway in the path of the oncoming 1980 Ford pickup, the sheriff's department said.
The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Knox Butte road.
Werner was pronounced dead at the scene. Dye, a passenger in the car, died while being transported by helicopter to Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland.
Lebanon resident Larry Archer, 36, the driver of the pickup, was not injured.
A Linn County sheriff's spokeswoman said the accident is still under investigation, and no citations had been issued as of Monday afternoon.
