About Jimmy Gray Hodges
RALEIGH - Jimmy Gray Hodges, 70, died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Wake Medical Center following a brief illness. Jimmy was born in 1933 in Beaufort County, Washington, N.C., to Percy Taylor Hodges and Selma Victoria Whitaker Hodges. A graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, Jimmy also graduated from the division of William & Mary in Norfolk. Jimmy retired from Norfolk & Southern Railway serving as head claims agent.
Jimmys many friends will long remember his zest for life and his love for fishing, and most of all, golf. A funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Marys St., Raleigh. The family received friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St., Norfolk.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Emily Fulford Hodges, in 1997.
Jimmy is survived by his brothers, Percy T. Hodges Jr. of Norfolk, Eddie Hodges and wife, Betty, of Chesapeake, Lester Hodges and wife, Margie, of Norfolk; sister, Alice Morris of Bear Grass, N.C.; many nieces and nephews; and his friend and companion, Maedell Irby.
