I have three sources that have Watkin Vaughan as the son of Roger Vaughan and Joan Whitney. The first is the National Library of Wales (Electronic Resouces/Welsh Biography Online) http://www.llgc.org.uk/cronfa/index_s_adel.htm.

They cover all branches of the Vaughan family. All of the Vaughan lines are discussed by place of residence. Watkin is found in the Vaughans of Porthaml section. This source does not even mention a marriage to Eleanor of Somerset.

The second source is The Bingham Genealogy Project, http://www.telusplanet.net/public/dkbing/genproj.htm

Douglas Bingham has an extensive list of resources that he used in his research. He has Roger Vaughan marrying Joan Whitney first, Watkin as their oldest child (consistent with the previous source) + 7 others. He has Roger marrying Eleanor Somerset second, no children.

From Welsh Biography Online

VAUGHAN family, of Porthaml , parish of Talgarth , Brecknock . This branch of the Vaughan family was founded by ROGER VAUGHAN, second son of Sir Roger Vaughan of Tretower. Roger Vaughan of Talgarth was granted the offices of steward and receiver of the lordship of Dinas, 17 Jan. 1509, and was dead before 25 Sept. 1514, when those offices were granted to Sir Griffith ap Rice. His wife was Joan, daughter of Robert Whitney by Constance, daughter of James, lord Audley. The Vaughans of Tregunter descended from his second son, Thomas Vaughan. The heir, WATKIN VAUGHAN, m. Joan, daughter of Ieuan Gwilym Vaughan of White Peyton. The family became prominent with his heir, WILLIAM VAUGHAN, who obtained a lease of the demesne lands of Dinas, 14 Feb. 1529.

The third source is a family history, "Kin of Mellcene Thurman Smith". I don't know the source of the info contained in this book. This author has Roger first married to Eleanor of Somerset, no children, and married second to Joan Whitney with Watkin as their oldest child.

(THIS THIRD SOURCE WOULD NOT BE CORRECT AS THE ROGER THAT MARRIED ELEANOR SOMERSET HAS A DIFFERENT DEATH DATE THEN ROGER THAT MARRIED JOAN WHITNEY)
