About Joan de Basing
Joan de Basing ('Johanne de Basyngg' in the original spelling) who received a cup of plain silver from her father. Judging by her last name, she was already married. Joan was the name of John's mother, which implies Joan de Basing was his eldest daughter, as does the fact that she was named first in the list of his children in his will. (1347)
Earwaker maintains Joan married Adam le Port, Lord of Basing. She must have married into the St. John family, (Lords of Basing) however, she can't be found in the list of the St. John family wives in the correct time frame at this time. The most likely candidate seems to be William St. John.

Joan De Warren was born to Sir John De Warren, 7th Earl of Surrey and Maud de Nerford. Joan married Adam de Port. Source: East Cheshire Past and Present by J.P. Earwaker, London, 1877 (CRO, Knutsford). This is widely regarded as the best work on East Cheshire of the 19th century. It is useful for family trees of landed families.
