Biography

The Peter Prudden book by Lillian Prudden printed the will of John Boyse, husband of Joan. Quoting from that:<ref name=Prudden>Prudden, Lillian Eliza. Peter Prudden; a story of his life and New Haven and Milford, Conn. New Haven: Tuttle, Morehouse &Taylor company, 1901 p. 105https://archive.org/stream/peterpruddenstor00prud#page/106/mode/2up</ref> :“Item, I give to John Stucoe of Biddingden my wives brother £10 ifand when he shall come to Halifax to the comforting of my said wife.”According to another transcriber on p. 103 of the Halifax Parish Church. It reads:<ref name=TAG19>Coddington, John Insley. “The Mother in Law of the Reverend Peter Prudden with a Pedigree of the Boyse Family” The American Genalogist 19:135 (1942-43)</ref>:“Item, I give to John Stawe of Biddingden, my wives brother, 40s ifand when he shall come to Halifax to the comforting of my said wife.”<ref name=TAG19 /> John Insley Coddington examined the original and believes it says::“Item, I give to John Stowe of Biddingden my wives brother 40s if and when he shall come to Halifax to the comforting of my said wife.”<ref name=TAG19 />

Baptism ===Joan, daughter of John Stowe was baptized at Biddenden 7 Aug 1575.<ref name=TAG19 /> The brother, John Stowe, mentioned in John Boyce's will, was baptized at Biddenden 14 Jan 1581/2.<ref name=TAG19 /> Her mother, Joan (Baker) Stowe, mentioned Joan and Joan's daughter, Mary, in her will of 30 April 1616. She neglected to mention their surname.<ref name=TAG19 />

Marriage===Joan Stowe was married to the Rev. John Boyse,<ref name=TAG19 /> probably in Kent before he was banished for preaching non-conformity.

Burial ===Joan (Stowe) Boyse was buried 9 JUL 1630 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England.<ref name=TAG19 />

Children order unknown: ===* Mary Boyse, probably the eldest daughter of John Boyse and Joanna (Stowe), was born about 1597. She was named in the will of her grandmother Joan (Baker) Stowe. Mentioned in her father's 1620 will, but not by name, and had deceased by the time her mother wrote her will in 1630. She died unmarried and was buried at Halifax, Yorkshire,England, 7 Jan 1627/8.<ref name=TAG19 />*Samuel Boyse, eldest son of John Boyse, was named in his father, John's 1619 will. He died unmarried before his mother Joan (Stowe) Boyse made her will in 1630, in which he was unnamed. No burial record has been found.<ref name=TAG19 />*Elizabeth m. Halifax 27 May 1629 Robert Simonds or Symonds of Sowerby in Halifax Parish.<ref name=TAG19 />* [[Silence m. Halifax 8 Dec 1630 Thomas Robinson. Went toNew England 1636, settled in Roxbury.<ref name=TAG19 />*Anna (or Hannah) Boyse. Rev. John Reyner, native of Batley, co. York, married at Bradford, co. York 12 Aug 1633, Anna (or Hannah) Boyse, dtr of Rev.John Boyse.<ref name=TAG16 >Peck, S. Allyn. "Rev.Peter Prudden, Pastor and Founder of Milford, Connecticut, and his English Ancestry." Vol. 16:11</ref> Her parents John and Joanna both named her in their wills prior to her marriage.<ref name=Prudden/> Anna Reyner died before 1642, when her husband remarried.<ref name=TAG16 />*Joanna went to New England about 1636. There she married Rev. Peter Prudden.<ref name=TAG16 /><ref name=TAG19 />*John Boyse, son of John Boyse, was baptized 14 April 1618in Halifax, Yorkshire, England.<ref name=TAG19 /> He was called the younger son in his father's 1619 will and was the only surviving son listed by his mother, Joanna (Stowe) Boyse, in her 1630 will. She made arrangements to see to his education.<ref name=Prudden /> He was killedApril 1643 in a fight between the King and the forces of parliament, about 2 miles from Leeds, co. York, England. Because his sisters became his heirs, he must have died without issue.<ref name=TAG16 />
