Joanna's maiden name is uncertain. Some researchers believe her parents were William Hill and Sarah Jourdain who both died in England.
She married John Scranton, probably in England, and sailed to the New World with him, arriving in 1639.
They had three known children, John II, Thomas, and Sarah. There possibly were more that never were recorded either in England or Connecticut.
Inscription Although this person was likely interred in Guilford's original village cemetery (now the commons and public park in downtown Guilford), no surviving gravestone was known in 1818 when all gravestones at the Village Green, but not the people's remains, were dispersed to other town cemeteries.
