HE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, August 31, 1906, Volume XXX, Number 41, Page 4, Column 3, "DEATHS. Sexson."

      Joel B. SEXSON was born May 18, 1839, died August 26, 1906; aged 67 years 3 months and 8 days. He was united in marriage to Mary A. WILSON in May 1858; she departed this life March 26, 1860. To this union no children were born. His second marriage was to Mary A. LAMB May 5, 1861; to this union were born seven children, one daughter preceding him to the better land. He leaves a loving wife, four daughters, two sons, two sisters, two brothers and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. He was born and raised on Indian Creek in Greene County on the farm upon which he died.

      He united with the M. E. church at an early age and lived a consistent Christian until his death.

      He enlisted in the Union Army in 1863, and served as an honorable soldier until wounded at Kennesaw Mountain, by a ball that he carried until his death.

      He was a loving husband and a kind father always making his home cheerful and happy for his family.

      He was conscious until the last, calling his wife, children and grandchildren to his bed side bidding each of them an affectionate farewell, saying, "All is well-all is well."

      The funeral services were conducted Monday from the residence by the Rev. Jacob NEAL and the remains were escorted by a large number of relatives and friends to the Carmichael Cemetery where they were laid to rest.
