NAME: Changed name to Ronne when he came to US at age 17; Mikkelhaug was the farm name, and we are not sure why Ronne was chosen. Possibly the name of family Farm or area “Rønne”.
From Jostein By: In America Ronne was easier to pronounce and write than Mikkelhaug, which correctly was John's home farm. Also (and that goes with the identity) Rønne was the main farm of the neighborhood, while Mikkelhaug originally was a tenant's farm (smaller farm) possibly owned by the main farm and rented to the farmer of the smaller farm, who in turn might have to "work for the rental fee". As Rønne (simplified to Ronne in the US) was easier to use in the USA and in addition was psychologically "better", he changed it the way we know.
BIRTH: on Mikkelhaug farm in Ørland, near Trondheim; There were 2 farms at Mikkelhaug; Margrete’s brother Anders Mikkelhaug lived in the other; Margrette’s farm doesn’t exist today, but Ander’s grandson Ottar lived on the other farm till about 2002.
Nearly all of John Ronne's ancestors were either farmers or fishermen. It has been a hard working people. All the people in the past, have lived in a part of Norway called Ørland. It is near the coast in the middle of Norway. (Info from Rolf Alb. Johansen, Trondheim, Norway, March 15, 1995)
S.S # 541-03-3807 In Bess Kaiser Hospital when he died.
He had the name Ronne because the place he came from was named Ronne. He came to the U.S. because there was very little to live on in Norway and very hard to find work. It was tough times. (Ingrid interperted by Toril Merete Waack July 27 1996)
