About Herman Herman Coblentz

HERMAN (HARMON) COBLENTZ (8.16.1735-7.31.1806) m. Julianna Shriver (1742-1.21.1806). He emigrated to this country from the historic Fort Coblentz on the Rhine and settled in Adams County, Pennsylvania, in pre-Revolutionary days, remaining there until his removal to Frederick County, Maryland, in 1776, creating there what is now in the sixth generation of the family in America regarded as the Coblentz ancestral home on this side of the Atlantic. From "Tercentenary History of Maryland, v. 4." Also "Williams History of Frederick County, Md." He served in the Revolutionary War. He was a member of the Reformed Church and is buried in the Old Reformed Church graveyard at Middletown, Md. The only child of Herman Coblentz that we were able to find a record of is John Philip. GEDCOM Note

CEMETERY STONES: E-MAIL NOTE FROM BEN PALMER 12-31-2001: “I went to look at the gravestones. I found Herman on the other side of the church from Juliana. Her stone says, "yOulEAnnA COBElAnCE" and his says, "HArmAn COBElAnCE" . They are carved on the back and have a hemisphere at the top (perfectly matching).”

In earlier visits to this cemetery, I found both their stones together near the back wall of the church. I think both vandalism and restoration have changed many original grave locations. JJC
