About Johann Conrad Jung
Conrad Jung Baptized in 1759 at "Saccum"
1759 (May 2): Baptism of Johann Conrad Jung, born 18 May 1759, son of Ludwig Jung and Margaretha, sponsored by David and Anna Hausman, Conrad Kocher, and Elisabeth Schilipin. [. D. D. Kistler, St. Paul's Church (Blue Church), Upper Saucon Twp., Lehigh Co. PA, 1744-1806, v. 1 (Phildadelphia. PA: Mt. Airy: Lutheran Teological Seminary). FHL film 022,074, item 1. In German.]
Even though this ceremony was recorded in the Church Book of St. Paul's Lutheran Congregation in Upper Saucon Township (also known as the Blue Church), one should not assume that the Jung family lived nearby.
John T. Humphrey: During the early years of settlement when the number of churches and pastors were very limited there is evidence parents either took their infants some distance for baptism, or pastors passing through these frontier settlements baptized infants and later recorded those baptisms in their respective church records, often some distance from where the infant was born. [John T. Humphrey, Pennsylvania Births, Lehigh County, 1734-1800 (Washington D.C.: Humphrey Publ. Co., 1992), i.]
