Hy was afkomstig van Linz in die provinsie Sakse, Duitsland. Hy arriveer in 1725 aan die Kaap as soldaat in diens van die H.O.I.K. Later word hy burger en sit sy beroep as messelaar te Stellenbosch voort.

X Johanna LUBBE as Jan GRIJLING op 31 AUG 1727 te Kaapstad. Van Lends (=Linz in Sakse). Hy was matroos in diens van die Kompanie. Aankoms 1725, eers soldaat, later vryburger op Stellenbosch, messelaar.

XX Jacomina PELTZER, a1b1, as wewenaar Jan GRYLING op 9 OKT 1735 te Stellenbosch. Hul kinders het almal die van GREYLING.
