About Johann Bernhard Kuntz
Bernard Kuntz was born Dec. 3, 1723, at Niederbronn-les-Bains in Northern Alsace. [At this time, the town was in Germany in the imperial province of Alsace-Lorraine,on the Falkensteiner Bach, situated under the eastern slope of the Vosges, 12 m. N.W. from Hagenau by rail].
At the age of 15 years in 1738, Bernard emigrated with his family on the ship Charming Nancy. His father and adult brother are listed among the passengers.
In the Autumn of 1765 at Lehi Township in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, he was naturalized a citizen. The family settled by Cherryville, Northampton County, on the eastern border of Pennsylvania. There he later married Catherine Eberhard, whose parents had emigrated from Germany the year before his. Six sons and one daughter were born to this union. Bernard's second wife was Ann _, born Jan. 1724 and died Nov. 25, 1804, age 80 years. We do not know of any children born to this second union. They lived all their lives at Cherryville and are buried there.
The inscription [translated from German] on his tombstone in St. Paul's church yard in Cherryville: "Here lies in the hope of the resurrection of the dead, Bernard Kuntz. He was born on the 3rd day of December in the year of our Lord 1723 and he died on the 14th day of July in the year of our Lord 1807, having reached the age of 83 years, 7 months and two weeks." He died on 15 Sep 1754 in New Hanover, Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania. He married Margaret (Anna Margretha) Pfalsgraff on 22 Sep 1719 in Niederbronn, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France.
Mother: Margaret (Anna Margretha) Pfalsgraff, daughter of John Jacob Paltzgraff and Greta, was born on 22 Sep 1695 in Niederbronn, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France.
