Rachor Family Story

by Tobias Rachor

Johann Konrad Rachor I. was the only Rachor family member who survived the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) [1]

Johann Konrad Rachor I. was born 1616, christened 18. June 1616 in the village of Zellhausen as son of Peter Rachore (Peter Rachor I.) of Zellhausen and Elsa Klauer of Seligenstadt. [2]

Before Johann Konrad Rachor I. the family name was written in different modes:

Ragor - Ragore - Raschorr - Rachore - Rachor

(see also the ancestors of Johann Konrad Rachor I.)

During the war he lived mostly in the city of Seligenstadt. [3]

21. January 1641 he was married in Seligenstadt to Marie Schaur of Weiskirchen [4] (today Weiskirchen is a district in the city of Rodgau) [5] Marie and possible children had been killed during the war.

Before the war in Zellhausen lived 44 familys.

Following family names were known there: Antel, Bauer, Brückner, Fieber, Förster, Frickel, Frietz, Funk, Gaukers, Geißler, Gilman, Gerlach, Gert, Grasmann, Grimm, Groh, Groß, Hasenstab, Heberer, Hechwein, Heilmann, Heyl, Heller, Hertlen, Henther, Herzog, Hofmann Hurterer, Jäckel, Ilschau, Keßler, Kobe, Krapp(e), Krop(p), Leyb, Melman, RACHOR, Rein, Riegel, Rup, Rußwin, Sauer, Schäfer, Scherp, Selzer, Seum, Suck, Viehm, Weingartner, Weitz, Winter and Wolf.

25. November 1631 came King Gustav Adolf of Sweden [6] with his troops from Würzburg [7] and Aschaffenburg [8] to the area of Seligenstadt. Most people of Zellhausen emigrated to Seligenstadt, the rest had been killed by the swedish tropps. The troops also occupied Seligenstadt and a lot of people had been killed there. Many Catholic people (Seligenstadt and the area arround there was traditionally Catholic) fleet from the troops deep into the forest. In the year 1637 five familys came back to Zellhausen but only for a short time. In the baptism records of Seligenstadt you can read: "1638, 1639, 1640, 1641, 1642 nemo habitavit in Zellhausen ob bella davatista" (1638.....nobody lived in the by the war destroyed Zellhausen). [9]

After the war only following families came back to rebuild the destroyed village Zellhausen (1648/49):

Frickel, Frietz, Funk, Grimm, Heilmann, Jäckel, Krapp, RACHOR and Weitz.

Johann Konrad Rachor I. was one of the founder of the new village Zellhausen.

In the year 1651 he is veryfiable in Zellhausen [10] and in this year he had also a house in the "Fischergasse" (fisher lane) of Seligenstadt. [11]

In the year 1654 he buied a barn in Seligenstadt. [12]

He was a farmer and juryman in the village of Zellhausen.

21. May 1658 he married in Zellhausen Marie Elisabeth Werner of Seligenstadt the doughter of the councilor Johann Werner of Seligenstadt. [13]

Johann Konrad Rachor I. and Marie Elisabeth Rachor (Werner) are the ancestors for all Rachor family members in the world and their descendants.

They had eight children.

Johann Konrad Rachor died 25. January 1687 in Zellhausen. [14]

His wife Marie Elisabeth Rachor (Werner) died 11. January 1702 in Zellhausen by dropsy. [15]

Ragor, Ragore, Raschorr, Rachore, Rachor

Erst ab Johann Konrad Rachor I. wird der Familienname durchgehend in seiner heutigen Form geschrieben. Er kann deshalb als der Stammvater aller heute lebenden Rachor - Namensträger gelten.
