Johanna Rossouw (1935 - 2021)
Brief overview:
Johanna (86), was found stabbed to death on Sunday 31st January in her house at the Edenpark Retirement Village, at Fuchsia Street, Witbank (Emalahleni). Her hands were tied behind her back, a beanie hat pressed into her mouth, and stabbed in the neck and back nearly 30 times. Brig. Police spokesman Leonard Hlathi said, "washing powder was poured over her face.”
"The victim seemed to have been held hostage and was then stabbed by her assailants who fled with the stolen items,” Brig Leonard Hlathi said.
Security went to check on Johanna when they saw a man driving off in her car. The vehicle has since been found.
Only Johanna's cellphone was stolen.
Johanna is survived by her four children, four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Update Thursday 4th February: The man suspected of murdering an 86-year-old woman at Edenpark Retirement Village handed himself over at Mondeor Police Station in Johannesburg.
Update: Terius du Plessis (36) appeared at Witbank Magistrates Court on 5th February 2021.
