MALAN, Mrs. JOHANNA ALIDA, wife of John Malan, wine farmer of Constantia Valley, C.P., and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. B. van Niekerk of Vissershoek, Durbanville. Born in the Paarl District and educated at the Huguenot Seminary, Paarl, C.P.
She has one son John Retief, also farmer.
Her beautiful home 'Hope of Constantia' is one of the few van der Stel homesteads in existence in the Constantia Valley and adjoins the famous van der Stel homestead. It contains many treasures in furniture, brassware pewter, also kitchen utensils of by-gone days. In her young days was an accomplished horsewoman. Is a great friend to all young people and many a happily married couple can thank her for meeting each other in her house.
She and her husband are well-known hosts in the Cape Peninsula. Her favourite hobby and recreation is gardening, particularly succulent plants of which she possesses a fine collection. An enthusiastic collector of antiques and was one of the first women to drive her own motor car.
