"Gerhard (George) Ohlbach came to America with his parents & 2 siblings in 1734. He was age 6 at the time. According to the records kept in the Archives at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, two families of Ohlbach's came to America on the ship "Hope" from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Daniel Reid was the ship-master. The ship named "Hope" arrived at the docks of Philadelphia on September 23, 1734. Gerhard (George) Ohlbach was part of the family of Whilelm (William) Ohlbach, Aged 28 & his wife, Anna Elizabeth Ohlbach , Aged 26. his 2 siblings were Gerderuth Margreta Ohlbach, Age 2 & Peter Ohlbach, Age 2. They settled in Frederick, Maryland. Other siblings were later added to his family. Johannes Gerhard 'OHLBACH' Changed his name to John Gerhard 'ALBAUGH' (no note as to why he did this). The name 'Albaugh' was spelled in German: 'Ohlbach'. In changing it to English, it was at first spelled : 'Allbaugh' and later one of the l's was dropped and the name was spelled 'Albaugh'.(other version is "Albach") "John Gerhard Albaugh became the head of our branch of the family. The name of his wife is not known. Their home was in Frederick, Maryland. There they reared a large family of boys & girls. After rearing his family, John Gerhard Albaugh died. "

Johann Gerhard "George" Albaugh was born on 8 March 1728 in Prussia's Rheinland-Pfalz state at Flammersfeld to Zachariah Albaugh I & Anna Demuth Schumann. He immigrated, along with 208 emigrants from the Province of Themish Bavara in 1734 from Germany via England's Isle of Wight (at Cowes) to America aboard the ship "Hope" at age 6 (according to this ship's manifest) with his parents, arriving on 23 September 1734 in Philadelphia, and then settling initially in New Jersey. He was married about 1755 in Maryland's Frederick County to Anne Marie Pittenger. They resided in Maryland's Frederick County. Although he apparently became known as "George" in America, he may be the "Johannes Albaugh" who was listed in 1774 in a Maryland land record as an heir of his father Zachariah I, who had died by 1765. He died before 1785 Feb 13 in Maryland's Frederick County, and was buried afterward at Libertytown's Union Chapel Cemetery.
