Johannes Jocobus Maree (1937 - 2002)

Johannes (64), was bludgeoned to death with a hammer on his Hillside, Randfontein smallholding on Thursday 1st August 2002. Captain Paula Nothnagel said Maree's body was discovered by his son-in-law, Boeta Graham.

Johannes, of plot 186 Hillside, was alone on the farm when the attack occurred. His wife was at work in Johannesburg. An unknown number of intruders broke a kitchen window and overpowered him in the kitchen, and bludgeoned him with a hammer on both sides of his head.

Nothnagel said that the attackers left through the back door and drove off in Maree's old red Ford Escort, registration number BGD190GP. A safe containing firearms was untouched.
