Seeing that his father died in the year 1774, he could certainly not have been born in the year 1778 (i.e. when he was baptised.)
His Death Notice gives his Date of Death as 12 Jan 1844 and states that he was circa 75 years of age when he died. This implies that his Date of Birth was circa 1769.
Based on the above, I have taken 1769 as his correct year of birth.
He was thus baptised at the age of 9 (approximately.)
Perhaps, seeing that he was a child born outside of wedlock, such a delay might have been understandable?
