Hannes (84), from just outside Settlers, near Warmbaths, Limpopo, was found murdered on his bed, with his hands and feet tied up, on 18th January 2009. The elderly owner of a filling station and a farm shop, is believed to have had a heart attack or to have been strangled to death during a robbery.

  • Suspect was arrested residence in Stoffelpark, Mamelodi, on Tuesday evening 25th August, 2020. 11 years and seven months after the murder, by detectives from Bushveld Crime Investigation (BMO) together with the Bela-Bela detective service and the police's crime intelligence unit in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria. Mashiloane’s fingerprints were found at the scene. Bosveld Misdaad Ondersoeke (BMO) worked with the Bela Bela detectives of SAPS to identify and arrest the suspect.

  • Appeared in court in Bela Bela on Wednesday 26 August 2020 and will re-appear on Wednesday 2 September 2020.
  • Mashiloane was sentenced on Friday 11th March 2022. Mashiloane was linked to the murder after his fingerprints were found at the scene.
  • In addition to a life sentence for the murder, he was sentenced in the High Court in Polokwane to a further 15 years' imprisonment for aggravated robbery and four years' imprisonment for burglary with intent to rob.
