Arrived in America on August 11, 1750 on the ship Patience at the port of Philadelphia. Later settled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia near New Market.

Served in the Revolutionary War

Notes for JOHANNES ROLLER:

Johannas or Johannes Roller (German for John) Roler-Roller-German spelling Rohrer came to the American Colonies in 1744. He was a patriot of the Revolutionary War serving as a private of the 3rd Virginia Regiment. Died maybe 1816 since his will was proved in April court in 1816 in Timberville, Rockingham County, Virginia. He married Anna--------? She died before 1788 because he remarried to Catherine Dosserin January 12, 1788 Rockingham County, Virginia. First Census of Virginia in 1782 lists our John Roller with 11 white souls-1 dwelling-1 building. 3rd wife Magdalena Prince.(Debra Roller Price)

This Johannes Roller of Rockingham and Shenandoah Counties, and his wife Anna is the father of all the Rollers of Scott County, Virginia. All of his children born in Rockingham or Shenandoah County. The family did not move from Rockingham County to Shenandoah County, instead the part of Rockingham County in which they lived was changed to Shenandoah County. In fact our Johannes Roller was one signer of a petition to change their county from Rockingham to Shenandoah county in 1792....In about 1809 or before 3 brothers came to Lee County Virginia. The part that in 1814 became Scott county Virginia. They were sons of Johannes and Anna Roller. They were Jacob, Casper, and John Roller. Jacob and Casper lived and died in Scott County, Virginia. John moved from Scott County, Virginia to Hawkins County, Tennessee and later to Barry County, Missouri and died there.

(from Roller Family Assoc. Newsletter Vol # 13 3,4) John Roller apparently aided the colonist's during the Revolutionary War. Our member, Lucille Heckmaster, 3107 Missouri Avenue, Joplin, Missouri, has entered the DAR on ther service of John Roller. If you are a descendant of John and interested in becoming a member of DAR or SAR, you might want to contact Lucille.

2-14-98 from notes by William Oliver Roller (4th gr. grandson of Johannes) According to records at the Raders Lutheran Church (located in Timberville-just a short distance west of New Market, Va) John Roller was an early member of the church. In 1990 Dr. William A. Rader revised th - - "Record Book of the Rader Lutheran Church Timberville, Virginia (1762-1889 with interruptions) Translated from German by Christopher Henry Droegemuller of Cheyenne, Wyoming. "A Sketch of the Old church by Harry M. Strickler in 1927" William O. Roller obtained a copy of Dr. Rader's record book in September 1991 and found interesting notes on John Roller.

1.On page E last paragraph "On May 7th, 1812, Adam Rader and Nicholas Cern (Karn) convey to Henry Stolp on behalf of the Presbyterian Congregation, and John Roller on behalf of the Lutheran Congregatin. The deed recites that the description in the deed of 1765 was not satisfactory which is the reason for the execution of this deed; that Adam Rader, the Elder, and Alexander Painter had long since died and that the above Adam Rader and Nicholas Cer were their legal heirs, respectively, ...."The deed recites that the lot includes, besides the meeting house, a school house and a burying ground/"...."In 1872 the congregation caused an act of the Legislature to pass vesting title in the Reformed Church and the Lutheran Church. Why did the deeds of 1765 and 1813 use the name Presbyterian church ?' "There is only one explanation and that is that the names Reformed and Presbyterian were used interchangeably, in the early days. The Reformed Church in Scotland was called Presbyterian and hence the name Presbyterian and was an Anglicized name for the Reformed Church. But by 1872 the descendants of these pioneers had forgotten the fact that they were one and the same church or else they believed that a difference had grown up between the 2 bodies that made it advisable to cause the act to pass"

2.Several baptisms in the Rader Church were sponsored by John Roller

3. According to "The John Roller Family" a booklet written by Anna R. Roller, John had 3 wives. (I believe Anna R. Roller got this information from the Rader Lutheran Church Record- -of which I have a copy. I believe John's 3rd marriage was June 15, 1808, to Magdalene Prince, a widow. ( According to the church record "John Roller and his wife Lena sponsored-(a child, Philipina - born May 8, 1814 of George Roller and his wife Elizabeth)- for baptism. Anna, John's first wife gave birth to a son on February 14 (year and name not known) and also birth to twin girls on November 8, 1773 (Rachael and Lea) and birth was given to another set of twins in December 1788 (Paul and Andrew). Evidently Anna died , then he married Catherine Dosserin, January 12, 1788.

John's children with second wife Catherine: George b. October 9, 1788; Margaretha b. December 16, 1789; Sarah b. March 4, 1792; Michael b. February 15, 1795; David b. March 4, 1798; Peter born April 3, 1804(these births were recorded in the Rader Lutheran Church Record). There were seven other children mention in John's will: Jacob, Casper, Catherine, Mary, John , Barbara and Anna (who had died) "Property of John Roller to be sold and proceeds to be divided between all the children viz.Jacob, Casper, Catherine, Mary, John, Barbara, Rachel, Paul, Andrew, George, Margaretha, Sarah, Michael, David and Peter all to share alike except my son Paul Roller whose share is $200.00 less than any of his brothers or sisters. " Some of the children are of tender age." Executors Casper Roller and Andrew Zirkle Jr. Dated June 7, 1806. Proved in Rockingham County Court April 1816. There were probably others deceased ....John Roller died in 1816. According to my calculation, John can be accounted for 18 children (possibly 17 if the son born by first wife Anna on February 14, (name and year not recorded, is one of the children mention in John's will of June 7, 1806-Rockingham County Court House, Virginia)+ These notes prepared by William Oliver Roller, after visiting the Rader Lutheran Church at Timberville, Virginia and the Fairview Church of the Brethren, located about 5 miles south of New Market near Paul Roller's farm.

retrieved from the internet July 15, 1998 COUNTY COURT PAPERS. Paper endorsed: John Roller's last will. A copy. I, John Roller, of the County of Shenandoah. Some of children of very tender age. All real estate to be sold by executors and proceeds divided between all the children, viz: Jacob, Casper, Catharine Roller, Mary ____, John, Barbara, Rachel, Paul, Andrew, George, Margaret, Sarah, Michael, David, Peter. All to share alike, except my son, Paul Roller, whose share is to be $200 less than any of his brothers or sisters. This deduction I make from his share in consequence of his disobedience to me and ____ of before he come of age and taking up with a woman of profligate character. Sons to be put to learn trades. Executors: Casper Roller and Andrew Zirkle, Jr. Dated, 7th June, 1806. (Signed in German. Test: John Crondson, James Anderson, Jane Allen, James Allen. Proved in Rockingham County, April Court, 1816, by Anderson, and at June, 1816, by Crondson. Executors refused to execute. Widow refused to administer. Administration granted George Roller. Test: S.
