Johannes Amundsen Slaastuen

Johannes Amundsen, the oldest of eight children born to Amund Johannessen (originally from Vatterland under Groupe) and Mari Knudsdatter Groupe, was born on Slaastuen under Nedre Groupe 24 Sep 1839. He was baptized at the Kvikne Church in Nord-Fron, Oppland County, Norway, 6 Oct 1839, with godparents: Rønnaug Groupe, Marit Groupe, Poul Slaaen, Torger Graupe, and Niels Hage. Johannes was confirmed 9 Jul 1854 at the Sødorp church in Nord-Fron (confirmations at often not at the person's usual church), where he was rated very good in his Christianity knowledge and diligence. He was vaccinated 28 Sep 1842. Johannes emigrated to America 17 May 1873. (This is all from the Fron church records.)
