Johannes van Dyk (1935 - 2004)

Brief overview:

Johannes (69), from Farm Renville, in Cullinan, was stabbed to death with a knife on the morning of Saturday 17th November 2004, after two robbers gained entry to his house by breaking a window. An artery had been punctured and he passed away before the police and emergency services arrived.

Police spokesperson, Insp. Percy Morokane said the police had already arrested two suspects in connection with Johannes's death, one on the farm and the other in the Refiloe settlement.

James Schroder, Van Dyk's son-in-law, said his father-in-law was awakened by an alarm in the lounge, and he went with his firearm to investigate. According to Schroder, Van Dyk may have known his attackers. A struggle ensued and Van Dyk was stabbed to death and his firearm taken.

Schroder said Johannes's wife, Alta (64), came across the fight, and the attackers ordered her to sit on a sofa. When she refused they fired a shot at her, but missed.
