Johannes "Hannes" van Wyk (1936 - 2007)

Brief overview:

Hannes (70), a well known builder from Klerksdorp, NW was beaten and stabbed to death on 27/08/2007.

Hannes, a builder who has worked in and around Klerksdorp for more than four decades, reportedly told policemen shortly before his death who was responsible for the attack on him.

Van Wyk, a grandfather of two, was murdered at sunset. He was in charge of a building project at a house in Abrahamson street, Wilkoppies.

Ten-year-old Kosie Bosch spent the afternoon with his mother, Wilna Bosch, when he arrived home. He apparently wanted to fetch a toy from behind the new building Van Wyk was working on on their erf, he came across Van Wyk who was still alive.

He was presumably hit several times with a shovel and there were also knife wounds on his body.

Insp. Charles de Koker and Const. Fred Leach rushed to Van Wyk's aid. In his dying moments he had the Police reportedly told some of the workers on the construction project were responsible for his injuries. The police arrested four suspects shortly afterwards, but according to Supt. Louis Jacobs, police spokesperson, they were released again late in the evening because they apparently could not be connected to the murder.
