Served in Revolutionary War: ref - Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary PatriotsBaldwin, John, son of Stephen and Phebe Baldwin was a soldier of the Revolutionary War. He was born in 1757 near Princeton NJ. He lived in Taneytown MD, Frederick County. He enlisted July 1776, length of service four months, rank Pvt., under Captain Jacob, Colonel Griffen, State MD. He enlisted again September 1776, length of service two months, rank Pvt., Captain Wm. Peppell, Colonel Johnson, State MD. Battles engaged in Germantown. Resident of Fredrick Co., MD at time of enlistment; date of application for pension was October 6, 1832, residence at date of application was Liberty Twp., Adams Co., OH, age at date of application 75 years. Remarks: his pension was allowed, he received $20.00 per year. Record shows Revolutionary service and is sworn to by his son-in-law Joseph Wade, Thomas Currey (a clergyman), and Stephen Baldwin, all residing in Adams County OH. After the war John Baldwin and family moved from Taneytown, Fredrick County MD to Washington, Mason County, KY in 1790 and in 1796-7 moved to Adams County OH and settled on the Judge Needham farm where William Washburn now lives, and from there moved to the Old Robe farm, our old home, into a log house. Corporal John Baldwin served as Corporal in the roll of Capt. Zadoc Markland’s company – Ohio Militia of the War of 1812 – from July until August 28, 1813. Grandmother Baldwin died there November 5, 1835. John Baldwin and Mrs. Mary E. Currey Barker, widow of Captain John Barker, were married in 1780. Unto this union eight children were born: Mary, Keziah, Hames, Elizabeth, Ann, Matilde, Sarah, and Elijah. John and Mary Baldwin are buried at Kirker Cemetery, Liberty Twp., Adams County OH.
