"He graduated from Columbia College in 1829 and then studied the law in the ofice of Hugh Maxwell and was admitted to the New York bar. He soon abandoned the law and became a partner in the shipping firm of Aymar & Co., with which he remained until about 1850, when he retired to a farm at New Windsor, Orange County, NY. He was a member of the New York Assembly from Orange County in 1863, and in that year was appointed Paymaster-General of the New York State troops with the rank of Colonel, and held that office until 1865. He was a member of the New York State Constitutional Convention, 1872-1873. An obituary notice was printed in the N.Y. Gen. & Biog.
